Due to its historical charm, modern amenities, and a low cost of living, North Macedonia is gradually becoming an appealing destination for property investment. As the real estate market expands, local and international buyers are recognizing its untapped potential.

From lively cities like Skopje to scenic spots like Ohrid, the country offers various opportunities for those interested in investing in residential, commercial, or land properties. This guide aims to give you helpful tips and insights for a smooth property purchase.

Understanding the Macedonian Real Estate Market

The real estate market in Macedonia is currently growing rapidly. Residential properties, especially in urban areas, remain popular. However, there is also an increasing demand for commercial properties because of the country's expanding business sector.

Skopje, the capital city, is at the forefront of real estate activity. New developments, apartment complexes, and office spaces are rising throughout the city. Furthermore, more buyers are looking towards rural and lakeside properties. They seek peaceful locations like Ohrid and Struga, where natural beauty meets investment potential.

In addition, the country's strategic location in the Balkans makes it a great place for foreign property investment.

According to Gjoko Zdraveski, a real estate agent from Zdraveski Agency in Ohrid, this trend is on the rise, and as he says:

"The growing real estate market in Macedonia offers a great investment opportunity. More and more foreigners are recognizing this opportunity, leading to an increased demand from individuals and investors.”

Foreign investors are attracted by the low property costs compared to Western Europe. They also benefit from a rapidly improving infrastructure and a growing tourism industry.
